Special Event Volunteers

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help with class parties and field trips.  These special days would be nearly impossible without your help.  I worked hard to make sure everyone got at least 2 parties and 1 field trip unless you were unavailable. If I missed you or you need to change your party, please let me know and we can easily move things around.  Thanks again for your help and cooperation in making this a great school year.

   Kindergarten Announcements

ELA

We had a great week reading more books about kindergarten.  We read The Big Orange Splot and used markers to decorate our own house to look like our dreams. We practiced rhyming and alphabet sounds and practiced the 3 ways to read a book.  We launched Daily 5 by building stamina for “Read to Self” and met our goal of reading for 10 uninterupted minutes!

Writing

We started journals this week.  We learned where to write words and where to draw illustrations in our journal.  We also learned that we need to draw pictures that match what our words say.

Math

We noticed, wondered and explored a variety of math tools.  We worked with connecting cubes, pattern blocks, counters/5 frames, and geo blocks.

P2

We will spend this year learning how to build strong relationships with each other through our Positivity Project.  We will do this by practicing the “Other People’s Mindset” and learning about a different character strength each week.

Kindergarten Announcements

Early learning

What a fun week we had getting to know each other!  We worked on routines and expectations, played outside on the playground.  We also went to music, media center, and art.  We read Chrysanthemum and Go Away Big Green Monster and did activities that go with each book.  We also learned that we can READ!  There are 3 ways to read a book....ask your kindergartner if they can name all three ways.  I've loved getting to know your child!  They are all amazing little humans and I cannot wait to learn and grow with them this year.

Snack:  Alijah  Please bring 30 individually wrapped snacks.

Welcome

Welcome to Kindergarten!  It was so exciting to see all of your smiling faces at Back to School Night.   We are going to have a wonderful year of learning and growing together as a class family!  I have included a link to the slides for those of you who were not able to attend Back to School Night.  You will also receive most of the information in your child's take home folder.  Here are a few reminders for your first week of school:

Back to School Night Slides

1. Please remember that for this first week of school our Kindergarteners ONLY have a staggered start. If your last name begins with A-K, your child will attend school on Tuesday and Thursday.  If your last name begins with L-Z, your child will attend school on Wednesday and Friday (unless you have already contacted me about switching). If you have a conflict please let me know.

2. Before school in the morning, when the bell rings, our Kindergarten students will LINE UP in front of the doors by the playground and I will come out and lead them in. There will be a sign for our class or my name will be on the blacktop to show where to line up. The rest of the students will just enter the building when the doors open. This will be our procedure for the first couple of weeks to make sure they get to the correct classroom. I will let you know when we transition to just being able to enter like grades 1-5.

3.  Please send in any unfinished forms in folders, hot/cold lunch, a water bottle, and any supplies you would like to contribute.

Thank you so much for helping our youngest learners during this time of new beginnings! I look forward to seeing everyone next week.
