   Kindergarten Announcements

Thank you…

To all the parents who helped with the 50’s day party and with the Thanksgiving lunch.  The kindergarteners did a great job singing and I know you helped to create a wonderful school memory for your children.

ELA

We focused on finding keywords that identify sequencing in a reading selection.  We learned to pay attention when we see numbers or sequencing words such as first, next, and last because the author wants us to learn the order of how to do something.

Math

We began our third math unit which included identifying shapes that are the same and using words to describe shapes.

Writing

We continued working on pattern books this week and came up with new pattern words and ideas to use.

Social Studies

We learned that different people live in different types of homes.  We learned to describe places and locations such as houses, homes and classrooms.

Science

None

P2: Self-Control

Sometimes when we are angry, we want to yell at a friend that has hurt us.  But we learned that the problem will be solved faster if we speak calmly to our friend and find a solution together.

Library books:

Remember to bring library books back to school on Thursdays.  If your child did not bring one home, they chose to keep it in their book boxes at school.

ELA

This week we enjoyed our Reader’s Theater unit called About Me.  We learned new vocabulary and sight words, practiced pacing and pausing correctly while reading aloud, and built comprehension by retelling the script.

Math

We learned to compare numbers this week.  We built number towers and put them in order. The students also identified one more and one less than a given number using our number towers.

Writing

We worked on creating pattern books this week and learned that they use words that repeat on each page.

Social Studies

We learned about positional words to locate things and places.  We played “eye-spy” to practice describing the location of objects.

Science

The students observed the path of the Sun in the summer and in the winter and realized that light from the Sun keeps the Earth warm.  We solved a mystery about what made marshmallows melt? Of course, it was the sun.

P2: Gratitude

Being thankful for what we have is something that we can practice every day. We sang songs about being thankful and learned how to write a thank you letter.

LIbrary books:

Remember to bring library books back to school on Thursdays.  If your child did not bring one home, they chose to keep it in their book boxes at school.

   Kindergarten Announcements

Thank you!

…to the Halloween party committee!  You did such a great job creating a very fun day for us all!  The kids talked about it all week.

ELA

This week we enjoyed reading The Three Little Pigs.  We reviewed the concept of print, analyzed the characters of the pigs and the wolf, and retold the story by stating what happened at the beginning, middle, and end of the story.  Finally, we voted on which character we liked the best.

Math

We learned to count and draw a given number of objects.  The students made number posters to practice matching numbers to a group of images.

Writing

We learned that we can write long sentences about things in nature.  We looked closely at a leaf and a shell and thought about its size, shape, texture, color, and parts.

Social Studies

We read a story about Max who didn’t follow the rules of Kindergarten.   We learned why we cannot do whatever we want in kindergarten and that we have rules to keep things safe, to keep things fair, and that benefit everyone.

Science

The students figured out how to reflect light to bring sunshine to a town that never sees the sun in the winter.

P2: my words and actions affect others.

Our words have an impact on the people around us. When we see a classmate working hard on something, let them know, “You’re doing a great job!”. Your kindness will help encourage them to keep going, and make your friendship stronger too!

LIbrary books:

Remember to bring library books back to school on Thursdays.  If your child did not bring one home, they chose to keep it in their book boxes at school.

After school Pick up:

Please remember that students should remain next to you while you are waiting for older students to be dismissed or while waiting for the playground to open at 4pm. Students should refrain from playing on the grassy area in front of the school so we can keep students safe from street traffic and buses.  Thank you for your help!
